Ghanshyam Das Birla is the key person behind the establishment of Birla Foundations Limited. He is the chief architect in India industrial growth. As the initial step to go ahead with industry and business G. D. Birla established a jute mill in 1920 in Calcutta for it was at that the chief center of Jute in India. A cotton mill also was established in Delhi as the step for industrial development.
Then Birla ventured in sugar,
cars and other miscellaneous things for the growth of business and property as well as for the industrial development of India.
After the independence of India Birla stepped in to Aluminum industry and instituted an engineering college at Pilani in Rajasthan which later on became an identity for the local people for its excellent education and academic opportunities that were provided to the students. For his contribution to the field of industry and business Ghanshyam Das Birla was respected with the second highest civilian award of India Padma Vibhusan in 1957 by the government of India.
